When We Gather

Worship:

Sunday @ 9:30am

Faith Formation:

Sunday 11am-12:15

Children, Youth & Adults

Wednesday Night
Studies with Pastor Scott
7:00-8:00pm

The idea of going to "Church" can be a bit scary or intimidating if you've never been there before, or perhaps haven't been there for awhile.   We know that, because we've all felt it too.  So we welcome you with coffee's before worship at 9:30am, with time afterward for fellowship - coffee, conversation and refreshments, and occasionally a special presentation or discussion.  Faith Formation education begins at 11am during the normal school year.

Wear whatever feels comfortable for you - you'll see everything from sport coats and ties to blue jeans or shorts. Children are welcomed and encouraged to join in worship - they are "the church" as much as the adults are!   We have chairs rather than pews, and a few tables in the back that are family friendly - a place for kids to color, and close to the doors if you need to step out for a moment.  Nursery care is available for times when parents want a bit of help. There is a children's message every Sunday, just before the sermon, with kids invited to come forward.   For more about what Hope is like, read more here...

Recent Sermons:
Sermon Series: Defeating Stress and Depression (2 parts)

Depression is all too real and all too common. But there are good things we can do to avoid and overcome it.   Chuck Norris (yes, that Chuck Norris) has some great tips, and Pastor Scott ties them to scripture in this 2 part series on April 28 (Part 1) and May 5 (Part 2)

Guest Preacher: Claire Guisfredi, "Challenge to Care and Equip"
On May 12, Claire Guisfredi, the Executive Director for North Kent Community Services (NKCS) joined us for worship and shared a gospel message.  NKCS provides a food and clothing pantry and other services across  north Kent County.  While Claire speaks often this was her first semon, and she connected gospel and life addressing the challenge to both care for those in need and equip them to care for themselves.   We thank Claire for joining us.   Hope's "Jingle Offerings" in the months of May and June are dedicated to NKCS.  Audio of Claire's message is here.

Sermon Series - Answers for Atheists
During March and April Pastor Scott shared
a sermon series, titled “Answers for Atheists”  that explored some of the foundations for our faith that are sometimes claimed to be unfounded, unreliable, unsupported, destructive to society and a foolish myth in conflict with the enlightened and scientific age of the 21st century.  Some of these claims can raise concerns and doubts in Christians who wish to be faithful, but who don’t have a ready response in heart and mind to these challenges.  This series generated quite a bit of conversation, so we'll leave the summary and links to the audio recordings here for a bit longer.

1. The Bible: The written word and witness - how it came to be, sources and the reliability of the record  (March 10 audio mp3)
2
. Jesus Lived and Led: Jesus was a man, not a myth.  The "history" of the gospels is reliable.  (March 17 audio mp3)
3. Jesus Suffered and Died:
Jesus also died. He didn't faint and wake up later.  The Romans were really good at killing, and some wrote about killing this Jesus.   (Mar 24 audio mp3)
4. Jesus Resurrected:
The biggest and most important miracle.  And there really are not any other rational explanations.  Easter Sunday message, of course! (Mar 31 Easter audio mp3)
5. Jesus Changed the World (for GOOD!):
Some skeptics claim Christianity has caused so much pain, war and hate.   See what this carpenter really built! (Apr 7 audio mp3)

Wed Night Study Group
"See Through the Scriptures" with us each Wednesday evening, 7pm-8pm.   "See Through the Scriptures" (by Crossways) is a truly is a great course, and one that I (Pastor Scott) thoroughly enjoy presenting!  Join us!  It's easy to jump in at any point.

Did you know many of our sermons are available online?
